Aphantasia can be defined as a condition where one does not possess a functioning mind's eye and cannot voluntarily visualize mental images.

The phenomenon was first described by the psychologist Francis Galton in 1880

Neurologists believe that approximately one in 50 people or 2-5% of the population have aphantasia
